Bing Sutt, literally translated as ‘ice room’, is a traditional cold-drinking diner introduced in Canton and popularised in Hong Kong. Known for serving drinks and localising Western-style light meals to neighbourhoods, Bing Sutts provided cuisine quickly and at affordable prices.
Bing Sutts were taken by storm in the 1950s and 60s, believed to be the predecessor of Cha Chaan Tengs (Tea Restaurant).
The style of food served in Bing Sutts is resulted from a mix of diverse cultures; which is why you will find meals such as cheesy rice and seafood bakes, as well as Swiss-style chicken wings and pineapple buns wedged with thick slices of butter.
